Cécile ABADIE: Ambassador of the European Union to Gabon, for São Tomé and Príncipe and to the Economic Community of Central African States Cécile ABADIE arrived in Libreville on 1 September 2023 to take up her duties as Ambassador of the European Union to Gabon, São Tomé and Príncipe and ECCAS. Before taking up her position as Ambassador of the European Union to Gabon, São Tomé and Príncipe and to ECCAS, Cécile Abadie worked for more than 20 years in the EU institutions. After higher education in international economics in France (she holds a Master’s degree in Development Economics from the University of the Mediterranean Aix-Marseille) and professional experience in research and teaching, she joined the European Commission in 2002, then the European External Action Service (EEAS) upon its creation in 2011. Cécile ABADIE has extensive experience in external relations and cooperation, gained during her career in the EU diplomatic service, where she has successively held the positions of programme officer for budget support for North Africa and the Middle East, head of the European Union–Jordan Partnership, Head of the Cooperation Section in Lebanon, Head of the Political, Press and Information Section in Morocco, Deputy Chair of the Council Working Group on the Western Balkans, and Deputy Head of the Sanctions Division of the EEAS. Cécile Abadie is married and the mother of two daughters.
