Air Vice Marshal Lanre Ibrahim Oluwatoyin holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics from the Nigerian Defence Academy and Post Graduate Diploma in Management from Bayero University, Kano. He also has a Master of Science Degree in Space Management from International Space University France as well as Masters of Philosophy in Security & Development Studies from Bangladesh University of Professional. Air Vice Marshal Oluwatoyin began his career in space technology on secondment from Defence Headquarters to National Space Research and Development Agency (NARSDA) in 2005 where he participated in the Know-How-Technology Transfer Training in China Academy of Space Technology which led to the launch of the Nigerian Communication Satellite (NIGCOMSAT-1R). In 2006, he attended Antenna Control and Maintenance Course at North West China Institute of Electronic Engineering, Xian China. AVM Oluwatoyin started as a principal Engineer at NARSDA and rose to become the Head of Strategic Application at NigComSat Ltd. He facilitated the establishment of the Directorate of Space Technology at Headquarters Nigerian Air Force in 2011 where he was the pioneer professional Director of the Directorate of Space Technology at Headquarters Nigerian Air Force. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Defence Space Administration (DSA) at Nigeria Defence Headquarters. Additionally, his experience at the International Space University was brought to bear in the formulation of Defence Space Policy and Strategy for the Armed Forces of Nigeria. AVM Oluwatoyin held several command and staff appointments in his over 3 decades of active service in the Armed Forces of Nigeria. He is the immediate past Chief of Nigerian Defence Space Administration before his retirement from active service of the Nigerian Air Force in January 2026. AVM Oluwatoyin is a fellow of the National Defence College Bangladesh and Nigerian Institution of Space engineers (NISEng) and Member American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics as well as member Computer Forensics Institute of Nigeria. He is decorated with Armed Forces of Nigeria, ‘Command Medal of Honour (CMH)’ and ‘Grand Service Star (GSS)’ amongst others. He is married with 4 Children. His hobbies include reading, travelling and playing computer as well as in-door games.
