Lazarus Mustapha OJIGI is a Professor of Geomatics (specialisation areas: space geodesy, engineering surveying, satellite remote sensing & geospatial data science). He holds B.Sc. degree in Surveying from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria (1994); master’s and PhD degrees in Applied Remote Sensing from Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna (1998 & 2005). Professor Ojigi is a distinguished academic, scientist and administrator of repute. He has wide range of specialised scientific and management trainings in space science and technology, satellite and electronic surveying, gravimetric analysis, global navigation satellite system (GNSS), Earth Observation and geospatial data science and applications. He joined the services of FUT Minna as an Assistant Lecturer in August 1995 and rose to the position of Associate Professor in October 2010. He was appointed Full Professor of Geomatics at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria in August 2014. Professor Ojigi is a Visiting Professor (Honorary) at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Imperial College, South Kensington Campus, London (2023; 2024-2027). He has over 130 scientific publications in book chapters, learned journals, proceedings and conferences. Has has successfully supervised 12 PhD and over 45 M.Sc. candidates to-date and currently supervising over 30 candidates (PhD and M.Sc.). He is the Editor-in-Chief of International Journal of Geoinformation and Earth Sciences (IJGES) published by Geoinformation Society of Nigeria (GEOSON). Professor Ojigi was the Head of Department of Surveying & Geoinformatics and the Deputy-Dean, School of Environmental Technology, FUT, Minna (2006-2008 & 2008-2010 respectively). He was the Director of Mission Planning & Satellite Data Management, NASRDA, Obasanjo Space Centre, Abuja, Nigeria. He was appointed the Provost, Institute of Space Science and Engineering (ISSE), African University of Science and Technology (AUST) Abuja in October 2022; the post he held until his appointment as the Executive Director of African Regional Institute for Geospatial Information Science & Technology (AFRIGIST), Ile-Ife, Nigeria in January, 2023. Professor Ojigi is the Secretary General, International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG) National Committee for Nigeria. He is a member of several professional and scientific society and organisation namely: Nigeria Association of Geodesy, Nigerian Institution of Surveyors, Nigerian Union of Planetary and Radio Sciences (NUPRS), AfricaGIS, AARSE and IEEE/Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society; International Policy Advisory Committee (IPAC), International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) (February 2025-date); the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC), Digital Earth Africa (2023-date), and the UN-GGIM Expert Working Groups on African Geodetic Reference Frame (AFREF), Integrated Geospatial Information Framework (IGIF), and Integration of Geospatial and Statistical Information (IGSI). He is a Fellow of Geoinformation Society of Nigeria (GEOSON). His current research interests are on: Integration of space geodetic and terrestrial sensing techniques for geodynamics, environmental hazards and engineering infrastructure monitoring and modelling; and Investigating GNSS performance in challenging African environments."
