Since its inauguration in April 2025, the African Space Agency has emerged as the continent’s most ambitious coordination mechanism for space development. This keynote reflects on AfSA’s first operational year, early flagship initiatives such as the EUR 100 million Africa–EU Space Partnership, and the challenges of aligning 55 national ambitions under a shared continental vision.
This high-level segment convenes heads of African national space agencies and space programme authorities for a focused discussion on the strategic direction of their respective programmes and the evolving role of space in national economic development. Rather than retrospective overviews, this session is designed to surface forward-looking insights. Agency heads will outline near-term priorities, upcoming missions, infrastructure investments, regulatory developments, and partnership frameworks that will shape their programmes over the next three to five years. Beyond technical updates, the discussion will examine how national space agencies are catalysing domestic commercial ecosystems through public procurement and private-sector participation in the governance of each national programme
