Dimane Mpoeleng holds a PhD in Computing Science from Newcastle University, UK, and earned a BSc. in Computer Science from the University of Botswana. Dr. Mpoeleng has held various positions at Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) since 2015, including Ag. Director of Technology Transfer and acting as the DVC for Research, Development, and Innovation. In November 2021, Dimane Mpoeleng became the BOTSAT Project Lead, successfully steering Botswana’s first satellite mission. Under his leadership, the project has reached a historic milestone; the imminent launch of Botswana’s inaugural satellite aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket in March 2025. He has extensive teaching experience in computer science courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In addition to teaching, he is actively engaged in research, with a particular focus on diverse topics such as machine learning, distributed systems, and geospatial information systems. He has published numerous papers in reputable journals and conferences, showcasing his impactful research contributions. Dimane Mpoeleng is deeply involved in various research projects, focusing on cutting-edge areas such as satellites, UAVs, drone logistics, machine learning, genomics, and more.
