Hambani Masheleni is a senior expert in Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) with over 20 years of experience working on continental initiatives. His career has been defined by a commitment to the belief that science and technology are the primary drivers for realizing Africa's development, especially through the aspirations of Agenda 2063. Mr. Masheleni was among the key contributors to the African Union’s foundational efforts in space. He served on the working group that facilitated the development and adoption of the African Space Policy and Strategy. In close collaboration with regional and national partners, he contributed to the establishment of the African Space Agency (AfSA) and the formulation of its legal, institutional, and financial frameworks. He also contributed to the GMES & Africa program, working with a broad network of stakeholders to leverage Earth Observation for sustainable development and climate resilience across the continent. Currently, with UNESCO, he continues to foster high-level partnerships to align STI policies and flagship programs with Africa’s developmental priorities. Mr. Masheleni holds an MSc in Applied Physics from the University of Zimbabwe and brings comprehensive expertise in science, technology, and innovation policy, spanning from continental strategic design to the practical implementation of advancement programs.
