Professor George Wiafe is a marine scientist and Earth Observation specialist with over 30 years of experience spanning satellite remote sensing, ocean governance, and environmental monitoring across Africa. He has led and coordinated major pan-African capacity building initiatives under the African Union, European Commission, and ECOWAS, including the EU-funded GMES & Africa and MESA programmes, with particular expertise in applying satellite data to fisheries management, coastal monitoring, and climate resilience in West Africa. Professor Wiafe is also the Founding Executive Director of Edenway Foundation, through which he champions the GEO-Africa Incubator/Accelerator (GAIA) — a continent-wide initiative dedicated to equipping young Africans with practical competencies in Geospatial Artificial Intelligence of Things for sustainable development.
