Professor Shinichi Nakasuka
Prof. Shinichi Nakasuka graduated from the Graduate School of Engineering, University of Tokyo and received a Ph.D in 1988. He joined IBM Research from 1988 to 1990, and then has been working for the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, University of Tokyo as a lecturer, an associate professor and became a full professor in 2004. He is a member of JSASS, SICE, and IAA, and the former Chairperson of IFAC Aerospace Technical Committee. He founded UNISEC and UNISEC-GLOBAL as a domestic and international university community for space activities. His major research areas include micro/nano/pico-satellites, autonomy and intelligence for space systems, novel space systems, and guidance, navigation and control of spacecraft. He successfully developed and launched 16 micro/nano/pico-satellites, including the world's first CubeSat launched in 2003. He contributed to the establishment of several space start-ups and to education courses on micro/nano-satellites in Asia and many other countries. He was also a member of the Space Policy Committee of the Japanese Cabinet Office from 2012 to 2022, and is now chairperson of many other ministries’ space programs. He received the IAF Frank J. Malina Astronautics Medal, the APRSAF 1st Asia-Pacific Region Excellence in Space Award, and many others.
